Placental Insufficiency and Ozone Exposures: Interactions in Driving Hypertension of Pregnancy
Project Investigator: Â Ryan Ashley
Project Description:  During childbirth, women are at risk of developing high blood pressure – a condition known as preeclampsia – which can be life-threatening. While certain genetic and dietary factors can predispose a woman to developing this condition, we really do not understand how environmental stressors can cause high blood pressure during pregnancy. This study will consider how ozone exposure, a common air pollutant, may inhibit the early growth of the placenta, which in turn can lead to cardiovascular risks for moms.
