Synthesis of novel anticancer agents and drug delivery materials

Project Description:  Our group focuses mainly on organic synthesis, drug discovery, and polymeric materials. Our overall strategy is to combine our strength in organic, medicinal, and polymer chemistry for biomedical research. In particular, our research interests in the anticancer and anti-inflammatory drug synthesis. In the meanwhile, we develop new drug carrier materials which are called “smart” materials. Combining with phototherapy, those materials can specifically carry the drugs to the target cell. Our ongoing research now includes the synthesis of anticancer/anti-inflammatory agents from natural lead compounds and light-stimuli polymeric materials. In the next stage we will combine the newly developed agents with metallic anticancer drugs to prepare prodrugs in order to reduce the current drug’s side effect, drug resistance and enhance the target treatment using drug delivery system.
