Mission Statement: Champions biomedical and community based research excellence in the state of New Mexico through the development of innovative, supportive and sustainable research environments for faculty and students, community engaging health initiatives, while building a network of lead scientists and educators at the state, regional and national level.

New Mexico INBRE Specific Aims in Brief

(NM-INBRE 2024 – 2029)

1. Network and Institution Development: to provide leadership, management and oversight to enhance the established multi-disciplinary research network that strengthens the lead and partner institutions’ biomedical research expertise, infrastructure, and research environments.

2. Faculty Research Development: build and increase the research base and capacity by providing support to faculty research programs at participating institutions through developmental research funding, access to critical research-enabling technologies and processes, mentorship, and various professional development activities.

3. Student Development: provide research experience and education to engage students from primarily undergraduate institutions, community college institutions and cultivate the “pipeline” for these students to coninue in health and biomedical research careers within IDeA states. Develop and build on established strategies for enhancing the persistence of students in STEM and engaging students in research experience.

4. Collaboration Development: Encourage collaborative, interdisciplinary research among NM-INBRE investigators and between NM-INBRE and COBRE investigators. Share established programs and infrastructure through the Regional Alliance on INBRE Networks (RAIN) with Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming to reduce redundancy, increase interdisciplinary research collaborations among faculty, and broden research and education opportunities for students.
